Sep 29, 2026Best Birthday Ever!
Portofino Resort is 6 miles north of San Pedro, it was so worth the trip. We were met at the airport and transported to the Resort, where we were greeted and escorted inside with wet warm cloths and a cool drink while we registered. Our bags were carried to our tree house, Jasmine. We were escorted to our "room". It was stunning with a view of the pool and the ocean, refrigerator and blow dryer. The staff took care of any of your other needs. We chose to stay at Portofino to eat dinner and were very pleased, so much so that we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there everyday we could. We went zipling, cave tubing, snorkeling, and shopping. We had a golfcart delivered to the resort the Sunday after we arrived. We went to Secret Beach and had lunch and drinks, liked it so much we went back to the Resort to put on our swimsuits, then we went back. At the Portifino Resort we felt like friends who came to visit because of the atmosphere we completely relaxed. We were welcomed by everyone who is a part of this beautiful Portifino Resort. I can't wait to return! 1- do not pack too much. A pair of water shoes, bug spray. reef friendly sunscreen, a couple of shorts, 4 shirts or sundresses, a wrap, a couple of swimsuits. I just let my hair air dry and go curly. There is so much more, it was a great trip!

Apr 23, 2026Beautiful Setting, Excellent Service & Standout Food
We had a great experience at Portofino Beach Club and would definitely recommend it for a more relaxed, upscale beach day. We spent a couple of hours there and enjoyed using the pool, which was a nice addition to the overall resort-style experience. While there was a bit of debris at times, it was minor but worth noting. The setting itself is beautiful—quiet, well-maintained, and less crowded than many of the busier spots on the island, making it a great place to unwind. The restaurant sits elevated above the beach, which gives it a nice breeze and a really pleasant dining experience with great views. The bar service really stood out—friendly, attentive, and consistently on point throughout our visit. The food was very good, with the octopus being a standout—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. One area that could be improved was the spa service, which felt a bit hit or miss during our visit. Overall, a great option if you’re looking for a quieter, more refined experience with excellent food and strong service. Definitely worth a visit.

Portifino is EXCELLENT!!
All I can say is WOW!! This place is awesome!! It is a ways up north of San Pedro but it is perfect! It is definitely far enough north to get away from the sounds of town. There is about a 15 minute ride that we timed that is a bumpy dirt road but it adds to the experience. If you are wanting to eat in town, definitely rent a golf cart but know it is a bumpy 30 minute ride into town with 15 of those on a dirt road. The resort is so peaceful and nice! The grounds are kept up so nice! If you’re looking for the Ritz Carlton this isn’t it but if you’re looking for a beautiful, peaceful boutique resort this IS it!! Faura the front desk hostess is so welcoming, warm and friendly! Rudy and Duane the bartenders are so kind and friendly! You feel like family here! The thatched roof beach cabana was simple but perfect! The A/C worked great, the bed was comfortable and the hot water was hot! The pool was perfect to lay out and soak in! The restaurant on site is very good! We ate dinner there one night and multiple breakfast and lunch and it was all VERY good! You don’t have to pay for things separately you just pay for all the charges at the end of your stay. We would definitely come back to Portifino and stay again and definitely recommend! The sargassum grass was built up on the beach but the resort has a crew that try’s to keep it down to a minimum! It’s just one of those things that mother nature does that the resort has no control over. It didn’t keep us from enjoying all the activities and the beautiful resort! We would definitely recommend!! It was our 25th wedding anniversary and they had the bed decorated too!!

Amazing experience!!
When visiting San Pedro, make your way to Portofino for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious! Rodolfo (Roady) at the bar made the best spicy margaritas and fruit smoothies, all with a smile! We rented a vrbo nearby so we didn’t see the inside of the beachside villas, but the pool was beautiful. We spent a lot of our time here. Let yourself relax with an oceanside deep tissue massage massage. Highly recommend this spot!

Nice but there are a few issues
I've rated this hotel as a 4 because it was a nice, relaxing, quiet place to stay. The food was pretty good and the swimming pool was excellent. The setting around the hotel was also idyllic with palm trees everywhere and nice thatched-roof chalets. That said, there are things you really ought to know. Firstly, the beach was full of foul-smelling sargassum seaweed when we were there, and one of the locals said that this seaweed is there most of the year. Secondly, the hotel is rather remote and unless you hire a golf cart, or pay for a 30-minute journey to San Pedro and a 30-minute journey back, you're pretty much stuck in the hotel for all your food and drink. We had breakfast included with our package but despite that, our food and drink bill for the two of us for 7 days was about £1000. Granted, we did always have a bottle of wine with our evening meals, but I did slightly resent having a lack of choice as far as other places to eat within walking distance were concerned. The bottom line is that, although we had a super time there,, i don't think we would go back.
