The hotel lobby and public areas are beautiful but rooms are old, and leave a lot to be desired. The bath towels/linens are very old and hard (not soft at all) The buffet food was not the best but the steakhouse and Italian restaurants were very good.

CAREFULLY review their promises
The hotel lobby and common areas look very nice. I got the ocean view promised. The bed was only average. The water pressure was very bad. I have long hair and couldn't properly rinse it. If someone flushed a toilet while I was showering, I got blasted by hot water. The food was repetitive and so-so. Service from restaurant staff was very good, but the desk clerks leave a lot to be desired. I chose this property because it offers airport shuttle. I am also a class member so I should get free shuttle. BUT! They said that I didn't book through the hotel so I was ineligible. When I showed that I had booked through the hotel, they gave me a phone number to call. It didn't work. I went to another clerk and she said a representative was on the property, by the pool. Um...why didn't the first clerk tell me that? And by the way, which pool? There are a few. The representative did the same "you didn't book through the property song and dance and gave me a number to call. I ended up just booking, and paying for, my own transfers. I doubt I'll ever stay at a RIU property again.

Questioned about people who stayed before us
House keeping pictures are not dated or time stamped. We were asked to pay for soiled sheets that were caused by people who stayed before us. We had to ask probing questions about when they took the pictures, show them when we actually checked in, with flight timings to get them to cancel the charges. It was painful. Even after getting everything cleared, they wanted to charge us again for the same issue at check out. We had to go through the ordeal again.

We were very happy with every facet of our experience at RIU Cancun. Service was excellent and the accommadations were excellent too. I would highly recommend it.

This is my third time to visit Cancun. So I have some base to compare this resort to other two. Strength: 1. excellent location, walking distance to Cancun Center; 2. every room has ocean view, which you have to pay extra to get this feature. Plus every room has a balcony facing the ocean, where you can there to enjoy the beautiful ocean view; 3. gigantic lobby with magnificent view; 4. utilizing sister hotel's (RIU Caribe) resource: guests can go to RIU Caribe for party with free shuttle. 5. foods are excellent; Hotel provided fantastic dinner for XMas eve, including lobsters and Spainese hams; Weakness: 1. Lighting in the bedroom is not ideal during night. When you wake up and go to restroom, the room is too dark. If you turn on light, it's too bright. 2. The sound of closing door from your neighbor is too loud.
