The Staff made the stay great
We’ve stayed at the Riu Negril a few times now, but this was our first trip back since the remodel—and it was GREAT! The renovations were beautifully done and really elevated the whole experience. A special shout-out to Dalton, one of the bar managers—he was excellent and truly made our stay even more enjoyable. Jamie at the bar was fantastic, and every bartender we encountered—from the lobby bar, sports bar, swim-up bar—you name it—was on top of their game. We never went without a drink in hand! The food was delicious, and the room cleaning staff did an excellent job keeping everything fresh and spotless. Overall, a wonderful stay and we can’t wait to come back again!

Great first Riu experience.
I really enjoyed my stay here. My group of 4 all loved the staff, especially the entertainment staff (special shout out to Shannalee, ShinShin (?), Pineapple, Shadow and Leaky(?)). They are naturals at what they do, remembering your name and previous conversations to make you feel special. The shows and activities they put on were always so great, funny and interactive. Cleaning staff were great too. Always came back to a clean tidy room, with extra towel decorations! Bar staff are a hit and miss. Some were extremely attentive and friendly; some were unfriendly and made you felt unwanted. All restaurants, speciality and buffet, were decent. Lots of variety such as classic American food i.e. fried foods lol, Caribbean/Latin American foods, "Italian" i.e. pasta, etc, the Asian varieties including the speciality restaurant were a bust (hope they can improve on these recipes).

Overall a great stay... with exceptions
This is by most measures, a very good hotel and has mostly exceptional amenities. We really enjoyed the uncrowded beach although the beach bar closes relatively early and stops serving certain drinks about an hour in advance of closing. The pools were also relatively uncrowded and as others have mentioned, there is no huge issues with finding lounge chairs on either the beach or the pools. The restaurants offer a wide variety of buffet foods but when you are serving hundreds of guests in an all-inclusive manner, you don't tend to get a home run with all of the selections. Some of the chicken I tried in particular was so dry as to be inedible. There were amazing curry and jerk dishes, along with a wide variety of foods for all palates. Staff were somewhat hit or miss. Special thanks to Antoney and Diana in the dining services area, and Marcia our hostess who was a joy to see whenever she was attending our room. I'd give it at least four stars if it weren't for the things that made it... less than enjoyable which while few in number, indicate a lack of commitment by management to customer care and satifaction. First, there was a non functional light over the double vanity in the bathroom. Reported the first day of a six-day visit, maintenance showed up, pulled down the entire light unit and said it needed to be replaced and they would bring in another unit. We never saw them the rest of the trip and despite notifying the front desk on the third day, the only other communication was an e-mail from the management on the last full day of our stay asking if the issue was addressed. It was not and the light remained non-functional through our last day. As older adults, it was difficult for my wife and I to see adequately when shaving or applying make up so we were forced to use the full lenght mirror by the patio door to get enough light. The thermostat could not be adjusted no matter how often we tried. It stayed locked at a freezing 65F (19C) the entire trip. The beds only have a top sheet because... it's Jamaica and outside the room was consistently hot and humid. Third night we realized that what looked like a pillow was actually a blanket inside a zipped cover. That made sleeping much easier. Another family member had no AC in their room for the first noght but to their credit, maintenance was able to fix that issue. Finally, there is relatively little effort by the hotel management to use the standard communication methods I've experienced at other resorts, cruises, etc. No text messages checking in or alerting you to activities of interest at the resort (you had to open the app on your phone and identify which hotel you were at each time to find a calendar of activities and even then, the app wasn't super informative). I received three e-mails during the stay. Two related to check-in and status of the rooms and the third asking if the bathroom light was fixed, again, four days after it was initially reported. Oh, and a briefly separated grandchild that was quickly reunited with their parent but only communication was again, through email! I didn't even receive the obligatory post-stay survey so this review is essentially fulfilling that gap. I joined the RIU Class as a member but it would take a better experience than our recent visit to get me to book again. For the cost, I've experienced more reliable chain resorts.

Excellent trip and would return
This hotel is excellent and from start to finish felt welcomed by all the staff. The entertainment team are outstanding and work hard all day / night. The beaches are lovely lots of shade to be found and didn’t really get hassled that much by the locals. The pool area always had sun beds available even late morning afternoon so no need to get up early for them. The food in all of the restaurants was very good, our particular favourite was breakfast but also loved the jerk chicken / nachos at pepes. My only slight gripe is the gift shop snacks are very expensive $14 for crisps /chips and the rooms get very damp, I’ve come home and had to wash everything even clean stuff due to the damp. All in all I would def return and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
