Booked this hotel to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday, stayed previously 8 years ago. We were allocated a room near to the theatre which we declined and asked for a quiet high room. We got the 5th floor on the opposite block, room was lovely and clean, bed comfy.. Rooms are looking a little tired but we were already aware that after our stay they were closing for 6 months to refurbish the whole hotel.. The hotel was very busy due to the time of year (Easter), but still able to find a bed by the pool and still able to find quiet areas.. The main buffet restaurant had lots of choice at every meal time, anyone complaining about not finding something to eat, must be very fussy. Hotel is ideally located just off the beach, lovely walk up to see the monkeys .. Waiting staff attentive and within a couple of days knew your routine. The Italian, steak house and Asian well worth queuing up for. Half way through our holiday, we were made aware of a fault with the air con and needed to change rooms. We weren’t keen to go over the theatre side as too noisy. We spoke to the duty manager Daisy and she was most helpful at making sure we were given an appropriate room. She found us a new room which was amazing, part of the new refurbished ones. We had a view over the pool but we were on the top floor. Thank you Daisy for sorting out our little issues, you made our holiday very special.. Riu please don’t let Daisy go , she is what Riu is about to ensure your stay is a memorable one.. Hopefully return sometime in the future

We loved it
On arrival when we were walking to our rooms we thought it was a hospital or prison but once in room we were impressed. Comfortable beds lots of space and a free mini bar. Food was excellent in buffet but the system to use the other restaurants is madness. Queue at 6 and hope for the best. We didn’t bother Be warned the road to hotel is appalling it’s about 15 mins of hell. Costa Rica was safe friendly and wonderful

We loved the property! Clean, beautiful grounds, wonderful pools, comfortable beds - the staff weren’t overly friendly and the restaurant situation is nuts! No reservations accepted and people line-up over an hour ahead of time to get put on a wait list. The spa was wonderful and the massage therapists were fantastic!

We spent 1 week at the hotel. Amazing grounds, good service but the building is in need of repairs, which we understand will take place now. Problems with the A/C, resolved by changing room. A la carte restaurants are also buffet style, a little weird. The staff is great!

Family vacation
Great family vacation. Zoo was great for the grandkids ages 18 months 3 years 6 Years and even the 14 year old had fun. The excursions were close by.

This ban on alcohol starts the Thursday prior to Easter and runs through Easter Sunday. A few hotels purchase special permits to serve alcohol, but generally it is not available.
