The best time ever!
I stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico April 21 - April 28 and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I’ve stayed at many Riu Palaces and would say this is one of my favourites. Some of the highlights that I’d like to mention are definitely the staff. No matter where I went, they were always friendly and made an effort to level up my experience. Food and drinks were also delicious. I particularly enjoyed the amount of diversity at the breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. There was something for everyone. The tacos, beef wellington, ribs, picanha beef, Mahi-Mahi, and guacamole were some of my favourite meals. Pepe’s on the beach also had burgers, fries, and other meats that you can snack on. As the other reviews, the rooms do need some TLC, but we really only went there to sleep so this was not a deal breaker for our group. The shower did not drain properly and we could have called maintenance to fix this, but again, was not a huge concern for us to do this. The beach was lovely - plenty of chairs so no need to wake up early to reserve a spot unlike the pool with the shady spots usually taken up by morning. However, by lunch, most people would move around and we managed to snag some shady spots by the pool. One of my personal highlights is the drink service at the beach. They brought around various drinks, which was a great way to try out new stuff which I wouldn’t have ordered otherwise. The beach is also very walkable. We walked the entire way to Playa Del Carmen to check out 5th Avenue and do some shopping. While there is some seaweed on the shore and a bit in the water, the staff was diligent at cleaning it up during the morning. If this is a deal breaker for you, do your research and don’t travel to Mexico during this season. Every night, except during the Riu Party, they had some singers come starting at 8 PM. Evening entertainment started at 9:30 PM and usually included singers, and rarely dances during our stay. I’ve noticed this at many resorts chains over the years that there are no longer extravagant performances as there used to be. The grounds were also beautiful. The resort also has a lovely cafe called Capuchino where you can order some coffee and get a break from the heat during the day. We checked out at 6 AM and we found out the sports bar also offers an early breakfast for any early risers or people getting picked up early for their flights. Overall, I would highly recommend this resort!

Relaxing and Clean 5* Stay
Our family of 4 had a great stay at Riu Palace. The buffet was excellent, it was not too noisy (NO spring breakers allowed) and good for our 14 and 17 year olds. It is well located and we liked choosing between poolside or beach. Evening entertainment was acceptable for the better part, and daytime events were fun by the pools. If I was to be picky, the pools are a little on the small side and they definitely have a bit of an algae issue that, despite constant cleaning/treatment, leaves white swimsuits with yellow/green stains. The central corridors to the rooms are very echoey and so noisy guest sounds travel too easily into the rooms. We were not really a fan of the 'open room' design, without a discreet bathroom area. The separate restaurants are not really that separate, they are all serviced from the same kitchens and not independent enough to feel 'special' as a break from the buffet, unlike other 5* hotels we have stayed in.

Annual trip to Riu Mexico
We love coming here but feel the rooms need updating. Beds are uncomfortable. Need more pillows/blankets. There was mouse poop in the room and the keycard to the room stopped working everyday after house cleaning used their keycards

Fantastic resort
The vibe here is fantastic as is the beach, and service. The food is good quality although not a huge selection compared to some resorts. We'd prefer a more comprehensive room service menu. The entertainment is great and we'll certainly be back.

Excellent trip. First trip Mexico and to the RIU Palace Mexico and can’t wait to come back. Service, food, drinks, grounds & hospitality amazing. Rooms are a little dated but are you really in your room that much. We will be back.
