FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY!!
My experience at this hotel fell dramatically short of reasonable standards. From arrival to departure, we encountered a series of failures that transformed our stay into an exercise in frustration. A Faulty First Impression & Check-In Our arrival set the tone: no bellman in sight to assist with luggage—a first in my travels. The front desk then spent over an hour attempting to process our American Express card in USD, failing to understand it required local currency. Only after my intervention and a manager's involvement was this basic issue resolved. Unacceptable Accommodations The assigned room was unacceptable: the air conditioning was broken, and it was visibly unclean. With no alternative rooms available, we were forced to relocate to our children's room for the night. We received no compensation for this immense inconvenience—at minimum, that night should have been comped, as we paid for a room we could not use. While we moved to a new room the next day, the problems persisted. Linens were insufficient (only two towels for four people, one flat pillow per person) and requests for more were only partially fulfilled. The decorative bedspread was soiled, raising questions about cleanliness protocols. Subpar Facilities & Amenities The hotel's infrastructure is severely neglected. Peeling paint is widespread, and the lack of an elevator—especially for top-floor guests with heavy luggage—is astounding. The weight room is tiny, with poorly maintained, dirty equipment. The food was a particular low point. Buffet offerings were often unappetizing and presented with little regard for hygiene, making hotel restaurants a last resort. Inconsistent Service & Token Gestures While the bartenders and housekeeping staff were notably friendly, the front desk team, though polite, often seemed inconvenienced by questions. A "compensatory" bottle of wine felt like an insult—its label was tattered and worn, as if retrieved from disposal, perfectly symbolizing the hotel's neglect. The Sole Redeeming Feature The beach was genuinely beautiful: spacious, clean, and lined with picturesque palm trees. The grounds were also well-kept. Final Verdict This is not a resort that values guest comfort or quality. Between the deficient accommodations, failing facilities, and lack of meaningful service recovery, it represents extremely poor value. I would not return under any circumstances and would caution others to seriously reconsider booking here—unless their expectations are virtually nonexistent.

Relaxing break from life
Stayed at the Yucatan for 11 nights Nov/Dec and could not fault it. We had a few issues with the room, we reported to reception and the issues resolved by the time we had returned to the room. Food was fine, we did not like the Asian restaurant and thought this was poor. This was personal choice though, so did not visit again. Plenty of other choices for food, only issue found was other holiday makers pushing at the buffet to fill their plates -no need. Drinks plenty full including shots and cocktails. The hotel is what you pay for if I wanted luxury accommodation I’d expect to pay more. I needed a break from life and this is what I got. Added bonus, animals running round and watching them in the garden areas. Also the people we met. The only complaints I have is not with the hotel or staff it’s with other holiday makers. First week fine no issues with sun-beds, second week was like sun-beds at dawn!!! Totally changed the dynamics around the pool. Oh and the fact my swimwear has turned a shade of yellow after being in the pool. Definitely plan to visit again in the future with my family.

Good hotel but has issues
Good bits-great choice of food and drink,we could use the tequila and playacar hotels which was good, enjoyed the white night ,friendly, attentive staff Negatives-poor,amateurish entertainment at the theatre, worst of all rius we have been to, public toilets dirty, rooms need updating, paint work is terrible, Italian restaurant needs better hygiene, we both had bad stomachs after eating there, finally my wife who is disabled had to wait to use the disabled toilets by the margarita as the restaurant manager who clearly was not disabled was using it,and he didn't even apologise!

Recommend!
We loved our stay at Riu Yucatán and had a great overall experience, especially considering the price. The food was very good, with a wide variety of options, so we didn’t even feel the need to book the à la carte restaurants. There were plenty of fish and meat dishes, salads, fruits, and a nice selection of Mexican cuisine. Breakfast was excellent as well, offering everything from omelettes to sweets. The beach and sea are beautiful — white sand, clear water, and almost no seaweed during our stay. The staff were fantastic: always helpful, friendly, and the entire resort was spotless. Also never pushy about selling anything, which we really appreciated The animation team and activities also looked good, although we didn’t participate much ourselves. One of the highlights for us was the wildlife on the property. We saw coatis, birds, and iguanas, and were told that monkeys can also be spotted — a really nice touch, especially for families with kids. Downsides: -The rooms are outdated, but still functional and clean. -There are no umbrellas on the beach; while there are palm trees, the shade isn’t always sufficient when traveling with kids. -At checkout, our key cards were deactivated exactly at noon without prior notice. We accidentally closed the room while some belongings were still inside, which was inconvenient. -The kids’ pool is quite small Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, excellent value for money, and we would definitely recommend this resort.

We will definitely be back
Love this resort the people that work there are very warm and welcoming! The rooms are spacious and very clean The whole resort was kept spotless. Food was good only complaint I had was it wasn’t very warm most times. The entertainment team was awesome they had something going every day. The beach was beautiful! The pools were lovely although the first day it was like an ice bath but as the week went on it got better. The monkeys were just an awesome bonus (it was the reason I picked this resort ) we got to see them everyday and they made my day. It was well worth the money we paid and we will definitely be returning as long as the monkeys are still there .
