Would never book again!
We traveled as a group of six adult couples to celebrate milestone birthdays (50 and 60). Our group has been vacationing together for over twenty years, primarily at adults‑only resorts, so we’ve experienced a wide range of properties — both exceptional and disappointing. Typically, even when a trip starts off poorly, the resort improves throughout the week and grows on us. Unfortunately, this stay was the opposite. The Good Property & Amenities The grounds are very well maintained, and the resort offers multiple pool options to suit different preferences: A lively party pool with music and a swim‑up bar A smaller pool for activities such as volleyball A quiet pool located a short walk away for those looking to relax The beach is beautiful, with soft white sand and a shoreline that is easily walkable for at least a mile and a half. Entertainment Team The entertainment team was a highlight. SI, Jason, Timothy, and Devin were consistently friendly, energetic, and engaging. Bartenders Diana was the standout among the bar staff. She went above and beyond at both the beach bar and the swim‑up bar. Unfortunately, she was the exception — most other bartenders were not particularly friendly, engaging, or attentive. Rooms The rooms were a good size, clean, and equipped with decent showers. However, the showers lack a ledge or surface for shaving, which is inconvenient. We were fortunate to receive a king‑size bed, but two of the couples in our group were assigned rooms with double beds. The Bad It’s difficult to know where to begin, as we encountered numerous issues that ultimately left us eager to return home. Bar Service & Inventory The bars routinely ran out of beer and popular liquors — daily. At the swim‑up bar, we were repeatedly told the keg was empty and we could go to the lobby bar ourselves to get beer. Staff made no effort to help. When bottles of major brands (Crown Royal, Captain Morgan, Bacardi, etc.) ran out, they were rarely restocked. Instead, guests were expected to search other bars for their preferred drink or simply switch to something else. Dinner Reservations Reservations are required for all restaurants except the buffet, and the resort strongly encourages using their app. Unfortunately, the app does not allow reservations for groups larger than four, and even when reservations appeared confirmed, they often did not register in the system. During our Saturday–Saturday stay, we were only able to secure two dinner reservations on our own. Guest services helped with one additional night but promised to arrange the rest — and we never heard from them again. Food Quality & Variety Food quality was below average with limited variety. A seafood restaurant is available, but it requires an additional fee unless you are a Diamond Club member, in which case you are allowed one included dinner. Staff Interaction In general, staff members were not friendly or welcoming. Smiles and simple greetings such as “good morning” were rare. Poolside drink or food service was virtually nonexistent — on the one day a server did come by, we tipped generously, but never saw her again. Cleanliness & Maintenance Cleanliness was inconsistent throughout the resort. A pile of dirt remained outside our room for three days, and room‑service dishes sat in the hallway for days before being cleared. Room Service Issues Although we did not order room service, two other couples in our group did, and their orders never arrived. We heard similar complaints from numerous other guests — many waited over two hours or didn’t receive their orders at all. Final Thoughts The best part of our trip was the fellow travelers we met. We connected with several wonderful people, including Diamond Club guests who paid significantly more than we did — yet they reported the same issues, even with butler service. This was, by far, our worst resort experience. We do not plan to stay at another Royalton property, nor would we recommend the brand. Initially, we assumed our experience might be isolated to this location, but a neighbor shared nearly identical issues from their stay at the Royalton in Punta Cana.
