Solmar Resort 4 ⭐️ — The Budget Cousin You Didn’t Mean to Book

Let’s get one thing out of the way right now: most of the glowing 5 stars reviews you see online are for Grand Solmar, the fancy 5 star property next door. This review is about Solmar Resort — the 4 star version. Think of it as the “budget cousin” at the family reunion. Staff Apart from two absolute gems working at the pool during the day, the rest of the staff ranged from uninterested to downright rude. The pool bar team? They’re basically on their own vacation — chatting, laughing, and occasionally (if you’re lucky) acknowledging your existence. A glass of champagne takes 30 minutes, plus a couple of reminders, and by the time it arrives you’re questioning if you even still want it. The front desk staff? Let’s just say if there were a competition for unfriendliness and lack of basic knowledge about their own hotel, they’d medal. Food The food is fine. Not good, not bad — just fine. You won’t starve, but you also won’t be rushing to Instagram your meals. Oh, and be prepared for the Solmar Surprise: a random vegetable in your pasta every single time. Zucchini? Sure. Bell pepper? Why not. That one lonely broccoli floret wondering how it got there? Absolutely. It’s like the chef spins a “mystery veggie” wheel before plating. The Website Fairy Tale The photos online? Yeah… those are from the 5 star hotel next door. Many “amenities” listed on their site are either in a completely different building or another hotel entirely. Want the gym? Hope you enjoy shuttle rides — it’s 20 minutes away and the bus stops in the evening. Access to the fancy 5 star facilities next door? Forget it. Ask nicely, and you’ll get a rude “no.” Ask rudely, and… still “no,” but with more attitude. Entertainment & Atmosphere All the action happens at Grand Solmar. At the 4 star resort? Evenings are as lively as a library at closing time. And if you’re walking on the beach, be ready for security to aggressively quiz you like you’re sneaking into a VIP section. Bottom Line If your expectations are realistic and your patience is high, you might find it worth the price. But if you’re expecting great service, smooth operations, or anything resembling a 5 star experience — wrong hotel.

    Solmar Resport

We really enjoyed our stay at the old Solmar resort. The staff was very friendly courteous and responsive. We appreciated the service of Arturo, Alexis and Eric at the swim up bar! Jennifer the activities director was great she had a great personality and was fun. The manager Carlos helped us deal with an unfortunate situation. She listened to our concern and then provided us with a great solution, while never making us feel like we were the problem!

    Going Back!

The rooms, the building, the swimming pools are kept very clean. The Meal Plan offered is worth it because food is provided from 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM and the Breakfast, Lunch and dinner menus have delicious and healthy choices. , alcoholic beverages are included on the meal plan and if you go to "El Trebol" Daniel will make you the best drinks. The AC works great, employees are very friendly, peace and quiet after 10 PM. I am not a swimmer so I didn't have any problem with NOT being allowed to swim in the ocean. The waves are beautiful but very scary! so I enjoyed my morning and evening walks at the beach. I also enjoyed the daily yoga and swimming pool games available from 10am-2pm with door prizes for participants/winners. Solmar resort is near to the Marina, 10 min walking distance, where there's plenty of restaurants and bars where you can hang out. if you walk a little bit farther you'll get to downtown where there's plenty of pharmacies, little hole in the wall restaurants with tradicional mexican food and fancy restaurants as well. Of course the souvenirs are 5 times cheaper than anywhere else! I pretty much loved everything about the resort except the fact that I couldn't order my meals at the restaurant and take them to my room. It was either eat at the restaurant or sorry you won't eat :/ I believe they need to change this or make exceptions for the ones that want/need not to be around crowds. Another thing was that when I arrived and checked in, they made me pay almost 5.00 dollars per day i will stay for some kind or state or city fee. NOBODY warned me about this extra charge.

    Solmar resort cabo

You have a choice to be all inclusive. The food was good catered to American dishes and Mexican dishes. The rooms are outdated and need a more modern look. The recreational leader Jennifer was was lively entertaining and made poolside fun. Jose Luis was good breakfast server very conversational and friendly. All staff very friendly all speak very good English if you need it. This hotel catered for my kids. However wish the poolside pool didn’t close at 4 and the dinning restaurant closes at 9 pm. Wish some things stayed open longer.

    Don't waste your money!

This is the "Old" Solmar....not the new one next door. It needs a complete overhaul....hasn't been updated since the 80's. No tv in the living area, room was old, original cabinets, outdated 2 burner cooktop, original fixtures in the bathrooms, no lamps at all, no alarm clock. 1 bedroom suite had 1 fork, 2 tablespoons, 2 butter knives, 3 plates, plenty if glasses and cups. Very limited cookware or cooking utensils. Living room sofa was dirty (pull out was disgusting). Floor was dirty. Pool lounge chair covers are dirty 🤮. Restaurant and bar was good, but seemed priced too high. Wait staff was good. Bell staff was great, on duty manager was no help, and front desk was fair. Don't waste your money....stay at Playa Grande, it's so much better, worth every penny.
