Great Resort and Staff. Will Be back in the Spring
Just got back yesterday from my 4th week long stay at the Sonesta Ocean Point. Great location in Maho Village and lot's of amenities. The staff do an amazing job of taking care of the guests and keeping the resort spotless. The food is also better than most all inclusive resorts, with lot's of choices. I only had one small issue on my last night. A group in the room next to mine was a "little" too loud with partying at about 3 a.m. (I had early flight). One call to the front desk solved that issue. I get that people on are vacation, but if you wanna party that late, just stay at the bar. Anyway, look forward to going back in the spring. Great resort, great staff!!

Some interesting observations
We were lucky to spend 2 weeks at the Sonesta Ocean Point Resort in November this year. This was meant to be a relaxing "flop and drop" holiday. The resort is modern and pretty well taken care of. The staff were great, especially Cheryl at the Point Pool and Frank at the Lobby bar. The food was very good and the chefs at the Azul definitely knew how to cook a steak. Don't miss the Local Tavern for some great onion rings. Our room was 417 and we had a great view of the Maho beach and the runway. The room was well taken care of while we were there, however the mini fridge could definitely use a good defrosting. It may sound weird, but we appreciate they left extra Kleenex on the bathroom shelf. Some all-inclusive places treat Kleenex like gold and it's hard to get a replacement. This is a beautiful property, but as always nothing is perfect so we did have a few negative observations. 1. There was always only one bartender on at the different locations. Generally during the day it wasn't an issue, but in the evening at the bars that support both hotels, they are trying to support the restaurants as well as the guests and it could take forever to get a drink. 2. In the two weeks we were there we never saw the Point Pool deck cleaned. It could use a good scrubbing. Lastly, there are not enough washrooms by the pools, bars and/or restaurants. At the west end of the hotel where there is the Bluefin Restaurant and Bar, the Azul Restaurant and Bar and the the quiet pool, there is only one women's and one men's toilet. By the Point Pool you could access the washrooms in the convention Centre, but it was a ways away. There was only one men's toilet and one women's toilet inside the La Fontana Restaurant that served that restaurant as well as Portofino, the main buffet, the pizzeria, and the nearby bar. Needless to say the lineups where crazy at night and during the day you could tell most people were just peeing in the pool. YUCK! There were good facilities at the Palms/Cantina. We had access to the Maho hotel property and the Cloud 9 Bar on the 9th floor of that hotel (don't miss it). There is great access to shops, a market, other restaurants, etc. all within a comfortable walking distance from the hotel . I would highly recommend that if you want to get away from the chaos of families and kids that you invest in the Ocean Point. It was worth every penny to us. Thank you for being part of our vacation.

Great time
Stayed for a week here and it was wonderful. We had the swim out room and it was a great choice. The pool was nice and clean and was warm. The location is perfect for sun most of the day. Housekeeping was spot on. Restocked towels and toiletries daily. The staff was so friendly. While there are kids at the neighboring resort, you hardly knew they were there. The property was well maintained and walking the streets outside of the resort was completely safe. Will definitely return.

The ONLY Place to Stay in Sint Maarten
My husband and I specifically picked Sonesta Ocean Point to be near the Sint Maarten airport, as its adjacent beach is literally the start/ end of the airport runway. It was incredible to see the planes landing and taking off, but note it's noisy for those that don't share the thrill of it. Also note that the water on that beach is a little rough and doesn't really avail itself to snorkeling. You can walk to Mullet Beach, though we took a quick cab ride, and there a tad more opportunities to snorkel there (but not great snorkeling if I'm being honest). Sonesta Ocean Point is very lively at the main pool, but it's easy to find quiet spots, like the pool on the edge next to the Azul restaurant. Adorable cats abound and are cared for by a local charity so Don't feed them: donate to the charity that does instead. I believe that one can even adopt the cats if they complete the correct paperwork... Sonesta Ocean Point rooms were immaculately clean but the decor was a little tired and in need of some sprucing up. Bed was so comfortable and it's not noisy at night so we slept soundly. Beyond the perfect location, the best parts of this Resort were by far the food and the staff. Azul is open for every meal -go there and skip the restaurants that the connected family resort can access. Dishes at Azul were phenomenal and as a New Yorker, we can admittedly be snobby about food. Some amazing, outstanding staff who deserve a shout-out include: Fantasia, Kim, and Charlie of Blue Fin and Azul; Jonathon Smiley of room service will always bring you extra waters when you're thirsty. I do think the bartenders could use some extra training, as my drink orders were not always right. But who can complain in paradise? Next time we go, I want to stay in rooms 128-131, as they are right on the Edge Pool next to Azul where it's quiet and peaceful and one has amazing views. The Sonesta Ocean Point is not to be missed and as an all-inclusive, it offered great value for what it was.

Staff Set Ocean Point Apart
Staff are what set Sonesta Ocean Point apart. This was our third Thanksgiving there and several of the staff feel like family now. Went with two adults and 30-something. First, the hotel itself. The rooms are Caribbean chic and very clean, the air con works relatively good, the Molton Brown bath amenities are lovely, housekeeping is efficient with both full morning and light turndown service. Food at Azul is what we call cruise ship quality - not gourmet but not awful, and they are fine if you order multiple entrees. Breakfast at Azul is great with several buffet items, plus made to order eggs and pancakes. Adults only is nice as the main pool has a relaxed atmosphere and there is never an issue getting a lounge chair. There was daily live relaxing music from 3-5pm. Pool is mainly couples who enjoy chatting with one another. Then you have the family friendly property available, which is a bit chaotic, but offers additional dining options, particularly the buffet for lunch, since we didn't want to have three sit down meals a day. And the casino across the street - where the dealers, other than Barbie, are meh but nice to have some nighttime stuff to do. Speaking of nights, there was one thing each night. Mike Price, a "juggler" on Saturday at the casino was one of the worst shows I've ever been to in the world. His "comedy" was just off, his banter terrible and he barely jugged. We walked out early. But the Sunday night, Funtopia show, was incredible. But what sets this place as mentioned earlier is the staff. Special shout outs to: -Cheryl, the bartender and "life coach" at the adults only main pool. One of the friendliest, most down to earth people ever, and she has been at the property for 25 years. -Janeal. the Azul waitress. Super friendly, great waitress knows your preferences, loves to play around in a fun way by joking with her diners when they are up for it. Made our dinners extra special. -Maddie the Baddie, Portfoino and sometimes Azul waitress, similar to Janeal, just a pleasure to be around -Simone at the buffet. Memorizes our drink orders year-over-year, clears plates quickly, always smiling and willing to go the extra mile. Clearly we enjoy our time at Ocean Point, since this was year three. It is easy and relaxing. And the weather in St Maarten is historically excellent with just brief rain sometimes during the day (no more than a few minutes).
