A nice chilled out place to visit.

The hotel was clean and the food was very good. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there was a lot of seaweed at the beach which was a shame but the next couple of beaches along were clear. Obviously this wasn't the hotels fault. It was hard to get a bed by the pool area unless you were up very early, people were reserving their beds with towels and the hotel staff did not move them despite there being a sign up. Generally a nice hotel but it seemed expensive compared to others we have visited before and they had better amenities.

    Not a great time

We went to sugar bay on 21st April for 1week as my son and wife had been before covid and raved about the experience. We did not fare so well this time! The wait in reception on arrival was rather long, but to be fair quite a few people were checking in at the same time. Reception staff super friendly and helpful. Our family suite was very nice, plenty of space and nice bathroom, but would have been better if the extractor fine was working. The fridge only had bottled water and for an all inclusive hotel of the standard I would have hoped for a mini bar of some description. The house keeping team don't even replenish the water, you have to ask reception. The meals, well my son and his family do not eat pork, they added this on the dietary information section but every day until he spoke to the chef, there were no none pork meat option, unlike their last stay. Omelette and poached eggs were all cooked to order and very nicely done too. The fruit platter was not covered to protect from flies, again hit and miss with presentation and mostly melons. Continental options limited but again good what was there. Few occasions the food had been missed labelled, oxtail displayed as curry mutton, ham pizza wheels where the word ham had been omitted. I personally didn't think the options were great, I myself love and cook Caribbean food daily at home, but this was a great disappointment and often very salty or bland. Hair was found in our tables breakfast meal 3 times, which the waitress started to laugh when informed thinking it was a joke, it wasn't. The catering team were once asked for none pork options for breakfast, on two days did arrange very good dishes. The advised for my son and family to simply request what they wanted , but as pointed out they shouldn't have every should be catered for. The bar was well appointed and bar staff friendly. We ate at the umi restaurant on site, portions of a good size, but what we choose had far to much teriyaki sauce for our parties tastes. The pools were great and very good for kids, our granddaughter absolutely loved both, not too deep and the hotel provides floats and toys so kids happy. Night time entertainment was good and finished at 10pm so not too early or too late. I personally would not return to the hotel as I didn't find it at all value for money, especially when I skipped meals on a few days due to not finding anything i like in the options. This was our experience and to be fair quite a few people staying the same time as us were very happy with everything so we may just have not been so fortunate. Barbados is definitely the best island to go and will return in next 50 days, but not at sugar bay.

    NOT HAPPY AT SUGAR BAY

Despite the food being wonderful, the staff friendly, and the entertainment good, my husband and I had a problem. Due to the cleanliness of the pool ( there had been a water main break issue that lead to funky/no water), and the unforeseen steps in the middle that he hit, he ended up with an infection in his foot that ruined us being able to go in the water ( I need his help going in and out of the ocean) or him being able to enjoy a drink. The hotel did not take responsibility and argued with us. Messages were sometimes “lost”/ no one told me, etc. We were not impressed and won’t go back.

    Family Break over Easter

Lovely hotel on the Wonderful island of Barbados. All of the staff, without exception were absolutely fantastic, happy, v cheerful and definitely made our holiday. Special mention to Jomo in the beach bar, and Daniel in the swim up pool bar. Also thanks to Kimberly who lit up our day with her chats and lovely smile. The food here was really good in the main restaurant and even better in the Sizzle steakhouse and Umi which we visited on one occasion each. Only slight downside was the beach, which was quite small and often blighted by a mass of seaweed which washed up and became a bit of an eyesore. The hotel staff did their best to regularly clean up the beach, but were fighting a bit of a losing battle.

Lovely hotel and the staff were brilliant!

I loved this hotel. The staff were lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. The food and drinks were really good quality and great variety. Our room was great, we had a 2 bedroom suite with our teenage kids and it was really fun watching the monkeys from our balcony. I would definitely come back to this hotel!
