Nice low-key resort at Frigate Bay
Nice low-key, low-rise resort on the Atlantic side of Frigate Bay, consisting of bungalows and a few two-storey blocks. Two nice (if small) swimming pools, rarely busy and blessedly free of music, aquafit classes and belly flop competitions. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops and two small supermarkets, all within easy walking distance, including several with good choices for vegetarians. Our room (ground floor of a two-storey block, facing the ocean) was spacious and clean. It has most things you could want: safe, fridge, kettle, iron, microwave, AC, fan, TV. The bathroom and shower were good (although I would maybe have preferred a walk-in shower - who uses the baths at these places?) Minor inconvenience: the toilet blocked a couple of times, and had to be fixed, which was kind of annoying. My only real complaint is that the drawers in the chest of drawers are REALLY hard to open and close. WiFi was good and reliable, both in the room and in all the common areas. I was impressed when a security guy knocked on our door one evening to tell us our back door was slightly open. There is direct access to the beach from the property, but note that this is not the broad expanse of sand at the Marriott that you may have seen pictures of. The beach here is narrow and weed-strewn (and, I'm afraid, garbage-strewn). And it's the Atlantic, so it's rough and steeply-shelving, not advised for swimming. You can, however, walk along the road (not along the beach) 15 minutes to the Marriott's beach, or 15 minutes across the isthmus to the beach on the more laid-back and calmer Caribbean side.

OK.......but could have been more pleasant, helpful staff
This complex is a nice site with a couple of pools and nicely laid out. There are local eating places and small supermarket very close. The room had a comfortable bed and was a good size but needed a bit of TLC. Unlike the rest of the five Caribbean islands I visited I found staff at the hotel and in shops less helpful. This went for the reception staff and both taxi drivers I used. Maybe picking it up from too many American tourists

Trouble
Not great. I chose this place because I wanted to be able to walk to places but…. Room 231 smells like urine. They “fixed” it but the smell was still there. Moved downstairs to a room with no smell but no kitchen utensils either. And the safe is not working. Maintenance says ‘tomorrow’. Would not recommend to anyone that wants to lock valuables or actually use the kitchenette. Definitely not for solo people.

Great location, great staff and great value!!
We had a fantastic stay, I requested an ocean front room on the second floor to maximise the views. (See photos of sunset and fishermen), from our balcony. It was beautiful to wake up to the ocean and hear the waves at night. The staff were always on hand to offer advice, tips and even provided a room for us to change ahead of going to the airport. Kelly in the office and the ladies on reception are an asset to the hotel. Always met us with a warm smile, they're great ambassadors for St Kitts. The house keeping and maintenance crew kept the grounds looking great and the rooms always nice and clean after a days exploration. Location wise there are lots of options in walking distance to grab breakfast or brunch to start your day. There are two supermarkets to get essentials from. We stocked up on water and local drinks. The beach has lots of comments about the condition etc. However as my photo shows if you turn right and walk a short distance it opens up and is lovely for a beach walk or watching the sun come up. We only used the pool area on our last day, which was perfect as we checked out then enjoyed the pool area, before heading to grab some lunch and chilling at Patsy's Bar on the Frigate Bay strip. There was ample car park space when we got our rental. Only once did we have to park across the road from the property. We took advantage of the BA Holiday Sale, which meant when we told people how much we paid. They couldn't believe it, as the flight alone is often the same price as what we paid for everything. Would definitely stay here again, we saw the other options nearby and whilst fancier etc. Sugar Bay ticked all the boxes! Nuff respect to the all the staff who made our stay a great one.
