Perfect Honeymoon Location
Our stay at the Buccaneer made for a fantastic honeymoon. Mermaid beach is one of the most beautiful I've been to, everything is very clean, and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful - especially Alberga. We were upgraded to one of the Doubloons, which was perfect for our trip and very generous of the staff. We were there for a week and never felt crowded. I would highly recommend staying at the Buccaneer, and I look forward to future vacations my family will surely be taking.

Disappointed…
Based on all the five star reviews and the prices, I had high expectations for the Buccaneer. Unfortunately I feel the resort came up short in many respects. We paid a lot of money for the Ficus Suite, which did have beautiful views of the pool/beach, but the furnishings and overall quality of the rooms was poor. Everything is extremely overpriced, food, drinks, etc., but again the quality was just so-so. You must have cash to take a taxi anywhere. Overall the staff was friendly, but service in the restaurants was very slow. We had a nice time, but I don’t think we’ll be back and I wouldn’t recommend the Buccaneer.

Wonderful family vacation - three generations.
Eleven members of our family (5 children ranging from two to nine, and 6 adults) stayed in the Beach House (villa on a point of land) at the resort. The accommodations were perfect for us - the separate Buccaneer Suite for my husband and me (with gorgeous view from our bed and patio, huge sitting room and bathroom with shower overlooking ocean) and the separate suites for the younger families - each with their own private entrances and bathrooms. The main house has a gorgeous living room (with glass doors allowing views in three directions), kitchen and dining area. Patio off living space looking north. The pool was beautiful (only thing that would have made it better would have been a shallow section for younger kids - but there were floaties and life jackets in the toy bin) and the pool deck was huge with multiple sitting areas (comfortable furniture) and outside dining table for 12. Views were amazing. Easy 10-minute walk to resort (across golf course or a long beach), where we had complimentary well-stocked breakfast buffet, beautiful swimming beach, lovely pool, tennis courts, and several very good restaurants. Two nights we ordered room service dinner for the Beach House and it arrived promptly. We played tennis (including a drill) four days while the kids were in Buccaneer camp for a few hours (which they enjoyed). Staff was very friendly and accommodating; service was excellent. Food was very good. The kids enjoyed the Fire Dancers at dinner two nights. Chartered a private boat (Carribbean Sea Adventures) for snorkeling and also had a day exploring Christiansted. All-in-all a memorable trip!

Beautiful Resort
The resort is beautiful and beautifully maintained. The history of the resort is very interesting, having been owned by one family for 3 generations. I was especially impressed that the current owner hosts a welcome cocktail party and also leads a weekly garden tour. Our room was perfect, although the daily cleaning service was inconsistent. The beds were extremely comfortable. We were up on the hill by the main building, and the view was amazing. We didn't golf or play tennis, although this resort seems to be the perfect place to do both. The beach and pool areas were very well maintained and beautiful. Waitstaff was always around to take food and drink orders. Be ready to walk a lot on some really big hills. There was not much to do in the evenings. There was only one restaurant open each night, and there was some low key entertainment. The closest town closes down by 9:00pm, and it was a bit uncomfortable for my daughter and I to wait for the cab to take us back to the resort. If you don't have a car, you will be relying on taxis. You can't be in a rush, you have to have cash, and also you cannot be out too late. Getting a taxi to the airport to return home was a hassle. There was a lot of confusion as we had to wait for others, and then we had to stop for one of the parties to get cash to pay the cab. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful resort with old school charm.
Upon arrival in the elegant West Indies style lobby you are offered a rum punch and have a view of the beautiful Caribbean while you check in. The property is lovely, with a sandy beach and ocean bottom in a protected cove perfect for beginning paddle boarders, but not very interesting to snorkelers. We enjoyed the restaurants we ate at on the property, but you must make reservations for dinner, and a later dinner is not easily accommodated. Staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. The concierge was able to get us last minute dinner reservations and a booking for a nighttime kayak tour the next day. The resort is convenient to Christiansted and the yacht club or the Moorings for Buck Island charters. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
