Oct 25, 2025A great getaway in a historic setting
My wife and I stayed here for 3 days recently for a brief vacation to unwind and not have to worry about, really, anything. The Don Cesar was up to the task. Staff was very friendly and accommodating of requests. We did self park, which was honestly fine, the lot is right across the street. The lobby bartenders were engaging and friendly, and mixed up some great drinks on our first night. We cannot speak for all the restaurants onsite, as we only ate breakfast and dinner once while at the hotel (both at the casual restaurant). The food was good but not incredibly memorable. We wanted to explore other options in St Pete for food. Our room was a corner King with a balcony facing the bay. The room, while not huge, was perfectly spacious for two adults and clean. The A/C worked well, although as others have noticed, it is a bit on the noisier side, if that bothers you (it does not bother me, I just want a cool room). Since it is an old hotel, the bathrooms are quaint, but this was not an issue for us. They were clean and well stocked. Turndown service was a nice touch. The first day we spent on the beach, and this was a great experience, as the hotel staff on the beach sets you up with chairs and towels, and the staff walks the beach with food and drink service. The second day we spent at the pool. No complaints, the pool temp was perfect, plenty of servers checking on you, ample towels, and tasteful DJ music. We did not use the Spa, but the fitness center was clean and had plenty of machines and weights available. In general, it was a pricey visit, but the service was top notch and the hotel and grounds are beautiful. They are doing some renovation work still, possibly from last year's hurricane, but it wasn't an issue. Some families with younger kids present, but in general it was definitely an adult-oriented place, which was what we wanted. We would recommend!

Exceptional Hospitality That Defines The Don
What began as a frustrating experience at a nearby hotel turned into one of the best hospitality decisions we’ve ever made. From the moment we stepped into The Don, the atmosphere shifted from stressful to extraordinary. If you are fortunate enough to be greeted by Kim at the front desk, you’ll know right away that you’re in exceptional hands. Her professionalism, warmth, and genuine care set the tone for our entire stay. It was clear from the start that this hotel doesn’t just meet expectations—it anticipates and exceeds them. The Don is not just a place to stay—it’s a hospitality experience done right. Every detail reflects pride in service and a deep commitment to guest satisfaction. We can’t wait to return!

Oct 23, 2025Disappointed, total unsatisfactory experience
The service at Don Cesar was less than par. We stayed at the suites this time and nothing went smooth. Check in was like a hotel 8, staff didn't inform us of necessary things. We enjoyed the beach and beach chairs and were promised each day that a server would be around to take our order, not once did someone take our order or did we see anyone available to take our order, we were there for 7 days! What does the service fee pay for? The cleaning crew and bar tenders were great. The food at the pool bar was pretty good, as well the fajitas with beans were disgusting though. We booked dinner at Maritana, which we dined at a few years back, and we got up and left. They ignored my request to celebrate my son's 21st birthday and would not give us the table we wanted even though the restaurant was empty, only two other tables occupied! The atmosphere was unwelcoming, we dinned elsewhere. This was a huge disappointment! I told staff repeatedly that it was his birthday and we chose this restaurant and they ignored our request! We ordered salads throughout our visit and each time they came with a disgusting salad dressing that literally tasted like fish vomit. The server the first time said it was Cesar dressing, it wasn't. It was green. Then I got the same exact gross dressing again with the the garden salad, clearly it wasn't the herb dressing! What is wrong with giving customers the appropriate dressing? One server at the Society Table was just rude and unpleasant, the menu was less than expected, the meatballs on the focaccia didn't say beef or pork??? Again the salads were gross. We watched the sunset at the raised level but the bar closed at 6:50 so we couldn't get a drink! The bar tender said, well I'm closing so you'll have to go to the restaurant to order you drinks! Again, where is the service! I presume most people want the bar open through sunset! No server on the beach either at this time which was disappointing this is not a full service high end resort! The store attendants at the cafe were unpleasant we had to buy water bottles b/c the restaurant would not give us water to go and the bar closed down early so that water was gone! Just terrible! The suite rooms are okay, they acted like they were so nice and we would be happy and have everything we need - nope! there is literally plates, small bowls and silverware and one pan. Can't make anything in the "Kitchen". The furniture on the balcony was so uncomfortable. We had towels that were stained, one had blood on it! We also had staff walk in unannounced, twice, they said they knocked but we did not hear them, imagined having staff walk in on you... twice! We will not be visiting again and we are disappointed we chose this place to celebrate such a great occasion, Don Cesar did not deliver.

Wonderful stay in St.Pete beach
Amazing location, staff, food, drinks, pools, beach and spa… the rooms were very comfortable and updated. The hotel was accommodating to all of our needs.
