Silver resort
This is an older, all-inclusive hotel, and while I do have experience staying at older properties, this one may not be for everyone. The hotel is aged and does show wear in certain areas. There are no elevators on the property, and I would not consider it wheelchair accessible. If you are staying on the first floor, there are fewer steps, but accessibility is still limited overall. The drinks were decent, and the food was good. The specialty restaurants were actually very enjoyable; however, you cannot make reservations prior to arrival. Reservations open at 8:00 a.m. on-site, and because the crowd at this hotel tends to be 55+, many guests line up right at 8:00 a.m., which means most of the desirable dining times are taken quickly. There is no coffee shop on the property, which may be disappointing for coffee lovers. Food service also closes at 10:00 p.m., with late-night snacks limited to salad and smash burgers. During my stay, the room locks were a major issue and appear to need updating. I was locked out of my room multiple times, which became frustrating and inconvenient. The pools were nice and well maintained, but there was little to no music or organized entertainment, so the atmosphere was generally very quiet. Alcohol service does not begin until 10:00 a.m. Pro tip: bring a travel mug or tumbler—bartenders will gladly serve drinks in it, which was very helpful so I didn’t have to constantly walk back and forth to the bar. Overall, this hotel may appeal to travelers looking for a quiet, low-key experience and who don’t mind an older property. However, guests looking for accessibility, late-night options, or lively entertainment may want to consider other resorts.

Some great things some improvements needed
We arrived for a 14 day stay with all our luggage but in the morning. So we had to wait until three to get our room key. I recommend having a small bag handy with a change of clothes and necessities for the day to change into if you are arriving warmly dressed. Or you will be taking your luggage apart looking for items on the steps of the resort where they are left sitting for the day. The resort is beautiful. The beach is great. You can actually swim and enjoy time in the ocean without being bowled over by the waves due to nearby reefs. Because of the reefs snorkelling was great and the fish were plentiful. Our room was adequate but a little small as it could only accommodate 1 luggage rack. Our room was a standard with two queen size beds. There is no room for a table and 1 chair. The maid service was excellent with the exception of the bar fridge which was moldy. We stayed 13 days but only had a bar fridge refill three times. The food at the main buffet was very good and they varied the menu from night to night. The wait staff were excellent and ready to help. The Octopus was an elevated experience we enjoyed. The Ocean grill was good. Don’t go to the Italian restaurant unless you have lots of time. We sat 25 minutes without a drink or taking our order. Perhaps they expected us to enjoy wine which we they did offer but we can’t drink due to meds. So we left and went to the Buffet. It was our last night so we had packing and organizing for an early morning flight. We asked at the desk if we could leave our wet towels at the desk since we had tried to drop them off at the towel booth but they closed early and we had a very early start. They flatly refused saying to bring them down in the morning with our carry on, back packs and large suitcase from the third floor. They said oh just call the desk and we will send someone up. We called at 6:30 and they said they would send someone up right away. At 6:45 we took our luggage down the stairs ourselves which was not easy for two senior ladies. No one ever came. The front desk staff have very limited English but speak French well. When we had a problem with our airport transfer the front desk and Bell hop they said there was nothing they could do as the only number we had from Nexus was long distance. So they basically pretended we weren’t there panicking. Thankfully the Nexus contact realized he was missing several people due to mis information on out pick up time from the Nexus rep and came back or we may still be there !

If you’re young, think again
I’m pretty young. I went with my friend and her older family member and I feel like there wasn’t much daytime entertainment for us daytime music daytime party nothing, it’s not an environment for those young AT heart and also throughout the week that we were there, we got locked out of our room at least seven times and you can’t just fix it in the villa that you’re in. You have to go all the way to the front desk and I know it’s a problem because we caught them switching the lock of another room after we get our lock changed. I feel like they didn’t go above and beyond for us and for the inconvenience we were only offered two massages on a three person room.

Back to Ventana our first choice in the Dominican Republic
This was our second vacation at Gran Ventana Beach Resort. We had a party of 15 adults for two weeks. All the employees at this resort from maids, gardeners, servers, guards, and managers are very friendly and many can speak English, French and of course Spanish. This is a favourite resort of Canadians. I would say 70 to 80 percent of the guest were from Canada. The buffet has a wide variety of cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is always something to your liking. Three of our servers that were exceptional are Enrique, Felix and Gabriel. Their service was over the top. Thank you so much. Rosa, the buffet greeter had the biggest smile and was genuinely friendly every morning. She made us feel very welcomed. The security guards throughout the resort were mostly friendly and accommodating. At the beach, Carlos was always helping guests find lounge chairs, especially when it got busy. Every Wednesday at the white party, the resort manager Oscar, introduces the employees heading up each department at the resort. Then there is music, dancing and socializing. I mention this because I never seen this sort of integration with guests and staff anywhere else. It is a fun evening. We do not sweat over the small things while on vacation. I suppose some of the rooms could use a little upgrade, more umberllas at the pool, extra staff at peek times, but overall the resort is clean, organized and well managed. This resort is favoured by many seniors, families with children and couples looking for a quiet holiday. Do not expect a late night disco, casino or after hours dinning. We cannot wait to book another vacation at Gran Ventana.

Incredible Wedding Week
We came to this resort for our wedding, and from start to finish it was truly an excellent experience. The resort is smaller, giving it a more intimate feeling, which we loved. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The beach is gorgeous. The food was great, and there were lots of options. (The Oceanside Grill was by far our favourite!) Our wedding coordinator Solange made it truly a top notch experience. She was on top of every detail and went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. Notable mentions: Ernesto the bar tender - Give him a good tip and you won't be thirsty all week! Solange - As mentioned, so helpful, friendly, and just all around great to deal with. Jesse Perez - An amazing DJ and entertainer. He made our wedding reception memorable. Elbia Tours - They organized a private catamaran trip for our entire wedding group and it was absolutely incredible. Such a fun day! I don't have enough great things to say about this resort and all the people there!
