False advertising that leads to a big let down
We are here now and were going to spend an extra night but it’s been a pretty disappointing experience compared to what was expected. If you look at the photos they show a posh looking outdoor pool and space ( from the Marriott app and website) but in reality there is just a small pool with some very dated and crowded sun chairs. The bar is non existent and to top it off they close the pool deck at 7pm, well before dusk which is what it shows on the pool rules sign. Even worse you pay an additional $60 per day resort fee which is supposed to get you towels, beach chairs, bikes etc. But there is no towels at the pool area, the beach you can only get chairs etc if it’s before 5:00pm and the bar with happy hour drinks etc doesn’t seem to exist or is done before check in. So if you are staying only 1 night don’t count on being able to get any of the benefits of the resort fee. As other mentioned also it’s extremely difficult to get around the hotel. Nothing is clear and doors at the front don’t work at all. You have to go significantly out of your way to make it anywhere in the hotel such as the check in desk on the 4th floor and the small pool deck a signifiant ways away. The rooms are also a bit dated and in need of some maintenance, you do get a robe in room but you have to fight over it if there is more than 1 adult in the room.

Average Hotel
The hotel itself is very confusing to get around (exiting/entering the hotel). There are two towers/buildings with different elevators. The service desk is located on the 4th floor, not in the front door lobby, which is very inconvenient if you're coming & going from the beach. In order to get in the hotel, you would have to get to the Valet/Ride sharing area to enter/exit the hotel. There was no front entrance to the hotel across the street of the beach, unless you walk through "El Vez", which is the Mexican restaurant attached to the W hotel. They blocked the front entrance and you cant access through it, even with your hotel keycard. It will not work. Customer service was lacking for the most part, especially in the main pool area where a DJ was blasting club music. There is a 2nd pool located at the other tower, which is more relaxing and mellow. The room we were staying was very cold and we had to adjust the thermostat a couple of degrees higher to make it more comfortable. You would have to request cleaning service at the front desk if you want to replace towels and toiletries. There were no self-service ice machines in the hotel either. Please beware that they charge a daily resort service charge of $60+/day. Double check to make sure they are NOT overcharging you with extra fees either, which happened to us AFTER we were on our flight back home. I did notify my CC company about the fraudulent charge. I also called the hotel and a staff member on the phone, his name was Dan, said it will be credited to my card and it was mistake by a "new employee" of the hotel. Hopefully, it will get resolved very soon... The hotel is directly across from the beach, which is very convenient. I've noticed a lot of homeless people walking/riding bikes around the blvd throughout the day. If you're from a big city with streets smarts, you know when to keep your distance and not socialized with folks who have nothing to lose (sad, but true). The staff at the beach were very attentive and friendly by providing waters, chairs, an umbrella, and fresh towels. If you wanted to get something at the nearest store, its quite a walking distance to the nearest CVS, clothing store, liquor store, etc. I would recommend getting a Uber/Lyft if you need to get around to the nearest supermarket. Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone going to this hotel. It was average at best with the price of the hotel stay. I give this hotel 3/5 stars.

W needs an update, but clean and great staff
The hotel is situated on the beach in a row of upscale hotels. Check in was fine. The desk clerk was extremely friendly and pleasant. I had a special deal through Chase called "The Edit" which provides a hotel credit of $100, free breakfast, a space-available upgrade and late checkout. The clerk was aware of that and informed Parking was $60 per night, which seemed very high but similar to other properties on the street. The resort fee was about $60 as well and we didn't use any of the supposed amenities that the fee covered. It was basically a way to get more money from us for absolutely nothing. I usually won't even stay in a hotel that charges a resort fee but made an exception. So, before even checking in we had already spent $60 on parking and $60 on the resort fee in addition to the $300 our room cost for the night. Our room was not available so we explored the hotel. A few hours later we received a text that the room was ready. We got an upgrade to a wonderful corner room with an amazing view and huge balcony. The balcony looked out right over the ocean, had a table, two chairs and two chaise lounges. A bellmen helped us up to the room, showed us around the room and was very nice. The room was very clean, well appointed. The bathroom was fine, basic and a little worn, as was the furniture. All could use a refresh. We recieved a lovely box of chocolate and two additional waters. The TV remote wasn't working but we don't really watch TV so we didn't call it in. We went to the gym which was very basic with a few machines, towels, lseveral treadmills, a few weight lifting machines. It was nicer that a basic motel gym but nothing special. After the gym we went to the pool. The pool is a good size but very little shade was available so we didn't swim. We ate in their El Rez, their restaurant which was a mexican restaurant. for dinner. It was nice with very wonderful service. Drinks averaged $15 and everything was very reasonably priced and delicious. The chips were not free, paid $9 for chips and salsa. I would highly reccommend the build your own taco dinner for two. It was excellent. The next day we had breakfast in the same place. IT was ala carte and nothing special. It cost about $60 for breakfast for two. All in all, for the money, it was a reasonable deal compared to other properties nearby. It was worn and dated and needs a refresh. We saw lots of dirt and grime, rusting surfaces, surfaces that needed paint, but all in all it was clean. The beach access was great. We stayed the next night at the Four Seasons two doors away and that cost 250% more. For $300 I would chose the W over the $800 at the Four Seasons.

W Fort Lauderdale - Saved by Manuel
Stayed at the B a few times, Marriott Harbor Beach a few times and decided to try something else. I stay at Marriott quite a lot and the ITC Kohenur in Hyderabad, India is a favourite for work and I take colleague’s with me quite a few times a year. After an 11 hour journey checked into the W but our first room didn’t really lend itself to me sharing with my daughter due to the open concept bathroom. We tried for a few days but it was a challenge. However, we spoke with Manuel who totally turned things around for us. He moved us without hesitation to a beautiful room that accommodates us perfectly and gave us both some privacy too. Outstanding response to our needs and a perfect resolution. Can’t ask for more than that, so would I stay here again and stay with Marriott … Certainly! Thanks Manuel.
