  Disappointed ☹️

  I am deeply disappointed by my experience with this resort and the way they handled a very sensitive situation. My family and I had planned a trip to Hawaii at the end of July to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Unfortunately, due to a serious illness and a tragic death in our family, we were no longer able to make the trip. I called the resort to cancel the reservation shortly after booking within two weeks of making the official reservation and was told I would receive a confirmation email. That confirmation never came. Weeks later, I noticed two large charges on my credit card, as if I had stayed at the resort. When I contacted them again to explain the situation and clarify that I had canceled, I was informed there was no record of my call. I was told that unless I had been transferred to their accounting department which I was not they would not honor my claim. Despite being told by the representative at the time of my cancellation that I would not be charged and would receive a confirmation, I was now being held responsible for a no-show and denied any form of refund. The manager I spoke with expressed sympathy but ultimately stated that nothing could be done due to “policy.” I find this completely unacceptable. Not only was I misinformed during the cancellation process, but I was also charged a significant amount of money during a very difficult time for my family money that should never have been taken. This experience has left a very negative impression. I would not recommend this resort to anyone, especially those traveling with families or in large groups. The lack of compassion, accountability, and professionalism is unacceptable. If you do choose to book with this resort, I strongly urge you to document every conversation, get names, and demand written confirmations.   Our room is nice and clean! Great ocean view and housekeepers are all very friendly! The hotel is near to everything! Great location! Will come back!

  There's a reason why most of the reviewers on this site complain about the front desk. They are the worst front desk team I've ever encountered in my life travelling across the globe. They're so rude and don't try to accommodate you at all. In fact, they try to not help and to be difficult even if you are a Platinum Elite member. I spent an hour at the front desk trying to check in only to be told there were no rooms and they couldn't accommodate my complimentary upgrade. Finally had to get the manager who wasn't very helpful at all but he got something squared away. Asked for a different front desk person Rex who was fantastic and got me checked in early and into an upgraded junior suite with corner oceanfront view. Thank you Rex. Had another bad encounter that night with another person at front desk. Not right!. I even asked the front desk manager if he looked at the tripadvisor reviews about front desk being so terrible and he said no and didn't seem to care. Our room has the best review I've ever had in all in all my trips to Hawaii. I'm going to put the pros and cons now. Pros- Location is great-walk to everything. They even had beach chairs, boogie boards to use for free as part of resort fee. Kuhio Restaurant for breakfast-everyone is so friendly and Brianna took care of us daily. Nice to see a friendly face when you come down to breakfast. The buffet was very good and we got the continental part covered with status and the waiters/waitresses usually offered to give us a complimentary upgrade. We didn't even ask. Queensbreak Restaurant-we had a decent dinner here-just burgers- and listened to the nightly music while sitting overlooking the ocean at night. Housekeeping-great crew-always a smile and cleaned our room quickly while we went to breakfast. I felt like everyone that you saw around the hotel was friendly. Adult pool-so nice to not have kids and have it quiet to read etc plus great waitress Dana who took care of us. Drinks and food were decent and reasonably priced. Cons- Balcony is crumbling-I read this and saw photos on tripadvisor but seeing it up close was not good. Chunks were missing on the bottom and top of our balcony. Seemed like a hazard. Fees-parking fee $65 night and resort fee $55 which with taxes is around $150 a night. We stayed for a week so that comes to an extra $1050 for the week. Kind of over the top. Adult pool-lounge chairs were all ripping so you would sag down. At one point, my husband fell through the hole onto the hole and hurt his bottom. But of course the lounge chairs that go to the cabanas are all nice. DK Steakhouse-first of all we had a reservation but sat for 30 minutes along with a bunch of other people who had reservations because the hostess said there were no menus. Meal was hit or miss-good steak but wedge salad was strange and mashed potatoes tasted like out of a box-were watery but had lumps. Arancini Italian Restaurant-again hit or miss. Waitress never brought my drink. Arancini balls, lasagna, tiramasu was delicious. Cacio e pepe was horrid. Manager didn't seem to care. We usually stay at Royal Hawaiiain or Moana Surfrider which are less touristy with a great all around staff. The Marriott Waikiki caters to tourists and doesn't seem to care about reviews Hard to say if I'd stay here again. If I did, it would be for the room. We won't eat at any of the restaurants again other than Kuhio for breakfast.

  Just a few issues

  Room was fine, except we were not able to access Netflix or You Tube, no internet. Tv guide was stuck on the date before we showed up, not a huge deal. Engineering guy, which he was nice, but he couldn't figure it out for us. Like others said, front desk staff is not welcoming, nor friendly. Most other employees we came across we're friendly, including housekeeping.

  The Marriott in Waikīkī delivers a decent stay, but it falls short of the elevated experience you'd expect at this price point—especially given the prime location. The hotel has a great footprint, just steps from the beach and close to restaurants and shops, which makes it convenient for first-time visitors. The views from the ocean-facing rooms are definitely a highlight—sunsets here are unforgettable. That said, the property feels a bit dated in places. The rooms are clean but basic, with decor and furnishings that could use a refresh. Service was polite but inconsistent—some staff were warm and helpful, while others felt rushed or disengaged. Housekeeping was reliable, but small touches you'd expect from a Marriott (like bottled water replenishment or thoughtful amenities) were hit or miss. The pool area is often crowded and lacks the relaxing ambiance you'd hope for in a Hawaiian resort. The resort fee covers some basics, but you’re still left wondering what exactly you’re paying extra for. On-site dining options are convenient but nothing to write home about. Overall, it’s an okay choice if you’re loyal to the Marriott brand and want a central Waikīkī location—but if you're looking for something with a more personalized, memorable, or luxurious Hawaiian feel, you might want to explore other hotels in the area.
