Not the best experience
We traveled to Waimea Plantation Cottages for a wedding and stayed for 10 days. Some of the cottages are nice but the one we got was not. It was Cottage B. You do not want this cottage trust me. It is in need of repairs and some renovations. For starters the shower heads in both bathrooms were way too low and I’m only 5’8”. I would have to squat down to wash my face and rinse my hair. There was a hole in the wall that was poorly repaired and. It repainted afterwards. I also noticed that when my son was in the shower and I was outside that the shower was pouring water from the drain onto the ground. A lot of the windows have rotting wood on them and the bathroom in general was dirty When I went to the office to ask them to be moved to another cottage they told me that they were fully booked and couldn’t. They never offered me a discount for any of the inconveniences during my stay. On the day I checked out the leak still wasn’t repaired and from the looks of the algae on the pipes outside it has been leaking like that for a very long time. I would say in general that most of the cottages could use some repairs especially for what they charge. I paid $4400 for 10 days. This place could be really nice if they did maintenance on these old cottages instead of just letting them fall apart. I would describe them as the slumlords of the hotel industry I would not recommend Waimea Plantation Cottages.

Never coming back again
After coming here off and on for many, many years, I’m sad to say that this is the last time. The management here is unresponsive. We called and emailed, repeatedly, before our visit, trying to get information about where we’d be staying, and what kind of equipment they had, if any, for the 9 month old baby we were bringing - we waited forever for a response, finally receiving just a bare bones email with no responses to our questions. The policy here is that you cannot choose your accommodation - just the category. So if you get one of the worse units, and they are otherwise sold out, well, too bad, that’s your vacation. These units are old, rustic, and not at all modernized. They have A/C now, which is great, but the plumbing and electrical connections are decades old. The linens are much the worse for the wear. The kitchens are very poorly, and cheaply, equipped. It’s basically clean, but sticky with built up grime. They have the makings of something charming and unusual here, but their failure to invest in the property over time has really started to take its toll. It’s nearly deserted here, as I write this, but they refused to give us any leeway on our checkout time. I have a hard time believing that by tomorrow, a Tuesday afternoon, they’ll be full up. I almost get the sense that they are hoping we won’t return. Maybe the idea here is that they have a captive audience, with very few other options, so they don’t need to do much at all in the way of customer service. Our unit was ok - that’s as far as I’ll go. It’s sparsely furnished, with mismatched furniture that seems to be whatever was left over. I always liked that this place was not uniform and predictable, like a hotel is, but they have taken that idea and stretched it way too far. I’ll miss the quiet here, but not much else.

SERENITY AT IT'S FINEST
We just returned from our second visit to Waimea Plantation Cottages, and though the first time 3 years ago was perfect, this time was even better! A more tranquil and beautiful place could not exist. The resort was originally a sugar plantation and the history of this remarkable place is evident everywhere. The charming, comfortable cottages are well spaced on the lush magnificent grounds, and each one reflects the allure of genuine Hawaii. The resort has done an excellent job of maintaining the tranquil feel of old Hawaii’s simpler times mixed with modern day comforts. The front of the entire property is unobstructed ocean views, and each evening at sunset many of the guests found a driftwood log on the beach to relish the spectacular sunset from a “front row seat”. We passed many an hour sitting on our private lanai reading, chatting, and just drinking in the absolute beauty and placidity of this truly unique and breathtaking spot. Another boon to Waimea Plantation Cottages is the onsite restaurant which serves the BEST barbecued chicken on the planet among other things. There are also a few excellent restaurants within walking distance. The location is perfect for long strolls on the beach (swimming is not recommended at that spot due to coral but they have a lovely pool and jacuzzi), fishing on the nearby pier, driving to close by magnificent hikes, and enjoying every single second in this paradise. If you are seeking a large high rise hotel with lots of action, modern and characterless furnishings and drinks with little umbrellas, definitely head straight to Waikiki. If your idea of a Hawaiian vacation is being surrounded by astounding beauty, comfort and an authentic aloha spirit, Waimea Plantation Cottages has your name on it!

Glorified 2 star motel
Waimea Plantation cottages is a glorified motel. Cottages are run down with dirty floors. Good ocean breeze but hard to enjoy with windows that barely operate and clearly are not designed to be open. Location and staff are great, however, for the price I would not recommend at all.

Awesome!
Gorgeous grounds with plenty of amenities. The cottages were well maintained, beds were comfortable, and has everything we needed in the kitchen. Nice to have Chicken in a Barrel and a coffee truck on site. Check in was easy. Easy access to Waimea canyon. Our stay couldn't have been better!
