Amazing Anniversary Getaway
Had such an amazing experience at this resort! The staff was so attentive in every way possible. Beautiful views, amazing food, fabulous pool, had a nice Spa experience, and even did some outside excursions (which were great). We did an all-inclusive package, and I highly recommend that if you will be dining/drinking.

The place to go for a quiet vacation
We booked this hotel in Grand Cayman for a last-minute trip using our timeshare points. Since most Caribbean hotels were already full, we were fortunate to snag a spot here after a cancellation. As an avid snorkeler and free-diver, I was initially disappointed upon arrival. The beachfront in front of the hotel didn’t seem to offer much for snorkeling, which was opposite of what a few other reviews I had read suggested. The water had a lot of seaweed that smelled foul, and there weren’t nearly as many sandy, clear-water patches as the pictures suggested. By the next day, conditions had improved—the seaweed wasn’t as heavy—but the clear, sandy spots on the beach still felt limited, especially compared to Seven Mile Beach. From what I learned, this side of the island tends to get more seaweed, particularly during the summer months. That said, the hotel itself is on a quieter part of the island, about 45 minutes away from Seven Mile Beach. While shopping and restaurant options nearby are limited, the hotel’s on-site dining was excellent, and the peaceful setting was a nice change of pace. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making it more appealing to dine at the property rather than going out. Additionally, we arrived during the slow season, so many of the restaurants nearby were closed in preparation for the peak season that begins in November. Overall, if you’re looking for a quiet stay with great food and don’t mind fewer sandy beach areas or a longer drive to the busier side of the island, this is a solid option.

Nice Hotel but Watch Out for the Seaweed!
We recently stayed at the Wyndham Reef Hotel and overall found it to be a pleasant property with some pros and cons. The rooms are very spacious, each with a balcony that faces the ocean — a lovely feature that makes the stay feel relaxing and open. The staff were consistently warm and helpful, and we especially appreciated Adam at the Tides restaurant, who provided excellent service. The breakfast offerings were varied and enjoyable, and the overall food service was attentive. That said, there were a few aspects that made our experience less than expected. The beach in front of the hotel is often covered with sargassum seaweed, which unfortunately gives off a strong odor as it decomposes. This made it difficult to spend much time by the water, and the ocean here does not have the clear turquoise appearance that is so often associated with Grand Cayman. For swimming and enjoying that classic Cayman beach experience, we ended up driving about an hour to Seven Mile Beach, which was beautiful. The hotel offers entertainment nights such as outdoor movies, karaoke, and salsa — though these weren’t really to our taste, some guests may enjoy them. One small inconvenience was that maintenance work like trimming and hosing down walkways often started quite early in the morning (around 7 AM), which wasn’t ideal for sleeping in. Overall, the hotel itself has many good qualities — spacious rooms, ocean views, and friendly staff — but we felt that the seaweed issue was not clearly communicated at the time of booking, and this impacted our enjoyment of the beachfront.

We would stay again if the opportunity arises.
We would stay again, though likely at a different time of the year. Weather was generally great, though much more humid than expected the whole week. Sargassum is a fact of nature and was nowhere near as bad as we feared before we arrived for the week we were there. Our only minor disappointment was water clarity from recent construction to help mitigate the issue. Even so, they did a good job keeping the impacts to a reasonable minimum and we wanted to explore the whole island anyway. The rooms and staff were great and met our needs and expectations. Onsite and local food options were great. The room configuations were perfect for our family of four adults, and could have worked if future grandchildren had gone too. We had no major issues or concerns.
- AdvisoryThe resort is closed for annual maintenance for all room types from 13th to 19th September, 2025.
