  Disappointing 25th anniversary trip

  I have not written a review here in a while, but I have to tell about my husband's and my experience at this resort. We go on an annual group vacation every year in October. This year we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Our group was 26-30 people, with only 4 people not in a couple or married. Everyone else is married. Normally, when we travel as a group, the resorts do not ask for the incidental fee. They were almost demanding the $200 incidental fee. We paid it no problem. We were then escorted to our room. We were the only couple that was put in a connecting room with double beds. The connecting room would not have been a problem if we knew the people in the other room, but no, we did not. We are celebrating an anniversary, why would we want two beds? The best thing about that room was the gorgeous view that we had. We called the front desk to inform them of the error. They said we could change rooms the next day. The next day, we called very early in the morning to verify that we still wanted to switch, and I said yes. She said that we needed to be out of the room by 12 pm. They came to get our luggage. We were told to comeback between 3 and 5 for our new room. Why? I know that the resort was not full. When we got our new room, it might as well have been a garden view because all we could see were trees. If we held our heads up, we got a glance of the water. When I called about that, they said they only have bay view or mountain view rooms. That is nice because we could not see either from our balcony. My husband did not want to move again, so we just stayed in the room. There was also a view of the walkway with a hood over it. We had a slight view of drunk and loud guests going back to their room. As I mentioned, we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. When they came to decorate our room, the person put up birthday decorations. When I complained about that, the office told me that we were celebrating our anniversary. I asked her why our room had birthday decorations. She apologized and said it would be changed. By the time we returned, it had been corrected. This was not our first vacation by any means. We have done many trips in the past, from cruises to other all-inclusive resorts. So the next part of this story was the biggest downfall for me. Why were they running out of food and liquor? I have never experienced that at any other all-inclusive I have stayed at. I am supposed to be able to eat and drink with no interruptions during my entire vacation. They ran out of bacon, sausage, eggs, bread, and steak. We ate at the Italian restaurant, and they did not have lasagna or steak, which were on the menu. I believe they were unstaffed because the wait in the restaurant was long, like an hour. While you were waiting all that time, they would come to the table to inform you that something you were waiting for was now unavailable. How and why? There was not a banana at the resort during our entire stay. The liquor situation was crazy. On some days, they ran out of tequila, whiskey, and vodka. I do not mean of a certain brand; I mean period. A couple of days later, they would have something in those groups just to run out again. They also ran out of Coke. Now I do understand that this was their off-peak time, but as I stated above, we go on vacation at the same time every year and have never, ever had that happen. They do not know how many people are going to check in during off-peak time. You need to have the same stock as peak time. Then they were making reservations for the restaurants on the days they were closed. Why is it that the staff does not know the hours of the restaurants on the property? That happened to our entire group on time or another. Some of the staff were helpful and friendly, but the majority were not. The only standout staff person at this resort for me was Malachi on the entertainment team. He was so much fun, energetic, engaging, and seemed to care about guests having a great experience, but no one else stood out. I always make a point of getting names so that when I write a review, I can give them a shout-out. We go on a long, out-of-the-country vacation for every 5th anniversary. I have to say that this was the worst experience for our anniversary and an all-inclusive that we ever experienced. The resort is gorgeous, but having an unfriendly staff, running out of food and liquor, and an "I do not care" attitude takes away from all of that. I am willing to give the Royalton brand another chance, but not this one. I struggle to recommend this resort to others. We are staying at another Royalton property for our 2027 vacation. This will be their chance to impress me, because right now I am at the point where I never want to stay at another Royalton.

  Yoga - a great start to the day with Lady J and Shannon

  Our group of six did the yoga classes with Lady J. Amazing classes. Lady J is so nice and friendly which makes the classes more enjoyable as she has good humour. Also Shannon is great and his classes are a must catering for all ages. Aqua fit is also highly recommended.

  Royalton NOT so Royal

  The staff were moderate to cold, depending on the service and ungratefulness of tips(which my wife and I were told was not necessary, but out of good heartedness we did...regrettable!) Restaurant availability, and food on the menu availability were hit and miss. One night we showed up for our reservation at the Caribbean restaurant and it was CLOSED. No notification via our phones and all you got was a "sorry for the inconvenience"...that's what 4 star service is nowadays I guess!! Umbrellas for shade on the beach were scarce, broken and unusable. Last but not least, I didn't like locals pushing marijuana on the beach everyday!!!!!!!!!!

  Royalton gym

  Excellent yoga classes and body toning and acqua fit with Shannon Lady J; brilliant and she recommended the sauna which was wonderful

  My warm welcome to the Royalton Antigua Gym

  My experience was generally good for my first time training with this gym. I definitely recommend visiting! Staff is friendly. Shaquelle and J’analyze were extremely hospitable. We did TRX and gym routines here Absolute 10/10 experience!
